Nature Frames
Looking for a last minute gift for the family this holiday season? These nature frames are a quick and easy craft to make with your child(ren)!
I love bringing touches of nature indoors and this project is a really sweet and cute way to do just that. Of course, your child can decorate their frames however they please, no nature required. Get creative and stick to the colors and interests of your own family.
Materials needed:
recycled cardboard
scissors or X-Acto style knife
ruler
crayons, markers, tempera sticks, decorative tape
glue
favorite picture
To start, go on a nature walk with your family to collect a few nature items to glue to your frame.
Then, have an adult cut out the frame in cardboard. The frames I made were cut to fit a 3in x 3in photo opening, with a 1inch thick Frame.
Now it is time for the fun part! Have your child decorate their frame with whatever colors and medium they prefer. We used tempera paint sticks. I am a huge fan of paint sticks as the colors are bright and bold and the paint is dry in less than a minute.
Once your frame is colored glue on your found nature treasures for an extra special touch. Our frames include dried leaves, evergreen branches, and snowflake hole punches out of leaves and paper, and a few mini pompoms for berries.
What will you add to yours?!
Our photos were printed from the Kodak Mini Shot 3 retro. I really enjoy this transportable photo printer and camera. In our Fall nature classes this year we made these frames with our families and I was able to easily take photos of each child and print right there on the spot. The kids were also easily able to take their own photos with the simple camera. I was also able to print out any images taken from my phone as an added benefit.
