Mice Skating

February 10, 2025 by Naturing in Madison in Winter

In our season of celebrating winter animal friends, our play as mice mates was inspired by the story “Mice Skating” written by Annie Silvestro and illustrated by Teagan White.

To create our adorable skating mice, I hot-glued two acorn cap ears onto peg dolls, then placed each one in a cupcake tin partially filled with water and froze them to form tiny ice skates (a heads-up—the cold made the acorn ears a bit delicate!). For a fun touch, I added food coloring to the water for a pop of color. I also froze sheets of ice in an aluminum tray to create vibrant little skating rinks.

As a bonus, our park has a real ice rink right by our play area! We had so much fun gliding our mice across the ice, racing to see which one could skate the farthest. A perfect winter adventure!"
